Half-assed attempt!?

December 14th, 2006

So I guess this new design thing has been done kind of half-assed. I did alot but went tired of my OLD sourcecode. So I might just start of clean again. Another thing I might do is to throw out Wordpress and play with Drupal instead. I’ve already got it set up and it’s running with the default theme at http://www.riotonacid.com/drpl/. It looks nice enough, but it also seems like it got waaaaaay too many functions for me to use alone. But I mean, what the fuck if I got some shit that I don’t use? I want to check it out anyway :P

Anyway, We’ll see… ;)

ReVamping?

December 12th, 2006

Is that a word?

Anyways. I’m doing a redesign of riotonacid.com thinkering about with CSS and gfx and Photoshop and whatnot. I was really going for something that would be a bit less stressfull, but alas, the Header is more trippy than ever. It looks like some sort of comic on speed & acid on the same time. Oh GOD! Haha.

Well.. Anyway, doing stuff. Maybe it will be good? Far from done, so don’t worry or something.. If I take to long I’ll just put back ze old design ;)

I’m currently working on this site too: http://www.finnskogene.no/norsk/ :) This one is also going to be available in English and Deutsch when I’m finnished :)

Learn shit! - Crash course in XHTML, CSS and Web standards

Time for you all to learn something new (old)! A crash course I just wrote about XHTML, CSS and Web standards. It’s written in the fine Norwegian language. I chose to do so because there’s already way to many tutorials written in English and Swahili.

It’s a bit short, but there’ll be a follow-up soon so you’ll all get to be wizkidz! I’ll keep write Learn Shit! articles in Norwegian (I’ve already given you the reason for this and won’t tell you again).

BMW Cut From Google Results for Cheating

BMW Cut From Google Results for Cheating - Yahoo! News

I think it’s great that Google has taken a stand against bmw.de’s SEO-cheating. This does of course mean that when people search for BMW in Google BMW’s own pages won’t show up, I’m not sure if that’s all good. Might cost Google some users, but at least they got their integrity (even though Google took some time before banning BMW from their search results).

The question is if BMW needs to be found in Google more than Google need BMW to show up in their search result. We got Google’s answer.

Sugar Ma.gnolia, Blossoms Blooming

Darren Barefoot has published a great interview he did with Todd Sieling (Project Manager of ma.gnolia) and Jeffrey Zeldman (from Happy Cog who did ma.gnolia’s UI).

It’s great reading, so read it!

I’m going to do a follow-up on ma.gnolia in a couple of weeks after I’ve tried it out a bit more.

Just a thought for ma.gnolia.com

February 2nd, 2006

What if you could put random bookmarks from ma.gnolia.com in your blog? Maybe with a few choices like including a snapshot of the site and description and let the user style it him/herself. Now that’s an idea.

I started my own group there yesterday after I wrote the article about ma.gnolia.com. It’s called “Norwegian Design” and is meant for all norwegian designers. That means not just webdesigners, but also industrial designers, fashion designers, architects and so on.

Found is the new Search

February 2nd, 2006

This is mostly a late evening ramble, so bear with me please :)

I recieved a mail from ma.gnolia.com. I had no idea what ma.gnolia.com was when I first signed up to check it out 3-4 months ago. When I recieved the mail from them a couple of hours ago I had mostly forgot about the whole thing. The reason I first signed up on their mailinglist was because I liked their clean frontpage design which is still on their frontpage. The beta-testing is going on at ma.gnolia.com/beta/, if you sign up at their frontpage you’ll get an e-mail when they are ready for you.

What exactly is ma.gnolia.com? It is an online bookmarksite which organizes bookmarks by tags, groups, rating and users (wouldn’t be much without users). The concept in itself is very exciting and it reminds me of what I’ve read about Google Star Search, though this is something completely different it got some of the same ideas of how to get relevant searchresults. The whole concept “Found is the new Search” means that you’ll be able to search through pages that are already found, valued and rated by other users. This should help you find what you want easier.

I’m a bit sceptic about how it will work when the amount of users increase and we get hundreds of thousands of bookmarks to MySpace and MSN Groups. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens. There will probably have to be made some changes in how things work after a while, but that’s how it is with all things new and old.

Other news:

Enough about ma.gnolia.com, I’ve expanded this site by a whole page! (WOW!!!) Just a little page about me which includes my e-mail address (lucky you). I’ll add some more info later.

Keep cool lads! Peace out! Whatever.

Update (15.01.2006)
Okay, uhm, I moved some stuff around a bit.

Old post (14.01.2006)
Amazing. I’ve actually done some more work on this site. I for one didn’t think I’d ever manage to get anythigdone. I’ve got that nice flickr thingy on the right side here and some sort of navigation on the left side. I’m working on a nice little footer too. After that it’s just all about content and I have no idea what I should write about. Though it will probably be not very far from what I wrote I’d write about 02.12.2005. On a sidenote, I’m not as of the moment using WordPress, but I’m working on writing my own code and build my own database. This will probably take some time though, but I’ve been inspired by a guy I just hired at work. He’s truly amazing at PHP, MySQL and Java. I’ve been working with him on a website for Dæsbekken Villmarksenter. It won’t work properly for FireFox yet, some trouble with the Java, but we’re on it!
